After a happily misspent youth, Lando Calrissian declared he’d retired from the smuggling life to travel the galaxy aboard his refurbished freighter, the Millennium Falcon. Accompanied by pilot droid L3-37, Lando moved from card game to card game, cultivating an image as a smooth, sophisticated “sportsman.”
-
On Vandor, Lando bet the Falcon against a ship owned by a cocky former Imperial pilot named Han Solo. Lando won thanks to a trick up his sleeve, but Han’s ship turned out not to exist. Lando then agreed to join Han’s gang for a daring raid to steal unrefined coaxium from Kessel.
-
The decision was one Lando would come to regret. Soon after the raid, he lost the Falcon to Han in a rematch of their sabacc game. Years later, he met up with the crew of the Ghost on Lothal, enlisting their reluctant help in a scheme to acquire a puffer pig.
-
Lando’s plan called for playing off the Ghost’s crew against the crime lord Azmorigan. It worked, though an unhappy Hera Syndulla gave Lando a knee to the groin for his machinations. In the end, Lando got the puffer pig he needed to search out valuable minerals on Lothal, and new potential allies in the Ghost crew – whom he later helped escape an Imperial blockade.
-
Lando fell in with a new compatriot, Lobot, who awakened his oft-slumbering conscience. With Lobot as his assistant, Lando went semi-respectable, becoming the administrator of Cloud City and its under-the-radar mining operations. This new career went awry when Han re-entered his life, accompanied by the rebel leader Leia Organa. They appealed for help fixing the Falcon’s crippled hyperdrive. Lando welcomed them with apparent enthusiasm, greeting Leia with particular interest.
-
Lando's guests did not know that Darth Vader and Boba Fett had appeared at Cloud City right before they had. Lando turned Han, Leia, and the Wookiee Chewbacca over to Vader and the bounty hunter, believing he was making a deal that would save Cloud City from Empire occupation. He thought that Vader would not harm the captives but use them as bait only, to capture Luke Skywalker.
-
As Vader tortured Han Solo, Lando learned that his friend would be given to the bounty hunter Boba Fett. The deal, he realized, was getting worse all the time. When Lando complained to Vader, the Sith Lord threatened to install a permanent Imperial garrison on Cloud City.
-
After telling Han and Leia in secret about Vader's plans for them and for Skywalker, Lando watched helplessly as Han was frozen in carbonite, and given to Boba Fett to take to the gangster Jabba the Hutt. After the freezing, Lando learned that Vader intended to take Leia and Chewbacca as his captives, and not leave them on Cloud City under Lando's protection.
-
Lando decided to take action. After organizing the release of Leia and Chewbacca from Vader's troops, he tried to save Han from Boba Fett. Before escaping from Cloud City he warned the population that the Empire had taken over, and urged them to evacuate.
-
Lando aided in Leia and Chewbacca's escape, and ultimately in Luke's rescue from Cloud City. He then joined in the bold plan to free Han Solo from Jabba the Hutt, piloting the Falcon to Tatooine with Chewbacca.
-
Once on Tatooine, Lando infiltrated Jabba's palace, disguising himself as a guard for hire. He was inside the palace when Leia and Chewbacca, and then Luke, arrived to save Han, who was still in carbonite in the gangster's collection. During the daring rescue, Lando was almost devoured by the mighty Sarlacc, but survived and escaped the planet with his friends.
-
After joining the Rebel Alliance, Lando was promoted to General, and asked to lead the starfighter attack on the new Death Star, which was being constructed near the planet Endor.
-
Han Solo loaned Lando the Millennium Falcon to fly in the attack. Together with co-pilot Nien Nunb, and with help from pilot Wedge Antilles, Lando flew into the center of the great battle station, and blew up the main reactor, escaping the ensuing explosion with his life, the ship, and mere moments to spare.
-
After the Battle of Endor, Lando settled down and started a family, but suffered a terrible tragedy when his infant daughter vanished – kidnapped, he’d later discover, by First Order agents. Years later, Lando traveled with Luke to Pasaana on the trail of Ochi of Bestoon. Their hunt ended in failure, but Lando found solace in the company of Pasaana’s Aki-Aki and decided to stay, keeping an uncharacteristically low profile.
-
At the Festival of Ancestors, Lando spotted his old friend Chewbacca and intervened to help the Wookiee and his friends escape the clutches of the First Order. When he discovered Rey had taken up Luke’s hunt for Ochi, he directed them to the site of the relic hunter’s abandoned ship. But he rebuffed Rey’s suggestion that Leia needed pilots, telling her his flying days were long gone.
-
But Lando found he couldn’t ignore his old friend in her time of need – or close his eyes to the threat posed by the resurrected Emperor Palpatine. He made his way to Ajan Kloss, where he paid his respects to Leia’s memory and helped Poe rally the Resistance. Lando agreed to take the Millennium Falcon and entreat the citizens of the galaxy to join the fight against Palpatine and his Sith minions.
-
The galaxy heard Lando’s plea, and he and Chewie flew to Exegol at the head of a huge hodgepodge of starships. This citizens’ fleet evened up the odds, and helped the Resistance defeat Palpatine’s Sith armada. Outpacing Poe’s X-wing in the Falcon, Lando then rescued Finn and Jannah from the deck of a doomed Star Destroyer.
-
The Resistance forces returned to Ajan Kloss to celebrate this momentous victory. But Lando was curious about Jannah and her mysterious past. Perhaps the two of them could find the answers she sought.
