Ree-Yees![]()
![]() From the MoviesRee-Yees was the name of a belligerent three-eyed, goat-faced alien in Jabba the Hutt's court. The pale-skinned Gran was a drunken spicer who often got into vociferous arguments with bigger aliens. Ree-Yees was aboard Jabba the Hutt's sail barge during the last trip to the Great Pit of Carkoon. He presumably perished in the explosion that engulfed the Hutt's pleasure craft. From the Expanded UniverseThe Gran are a communal species who laud such concepts as family and friendship. Sociopathic behavior is not tolerated at all in Gran culture, and criminals are looked upon as insane deviants to be cast out of society. Ironically, this only serves to further madden the outcast Gran.Ree-Yees was a convicted murderer on the Gran homeworld of Kinyen, and was ostracized by Gran society. Ree-Yees tried to drown his sorrows in Sullustan gin, and became a credit-ante thief, swindler and all-around malcontent. It was only natural that he made his way to Jabba's palace. Though Ree-Yees was stupid, there were always stupider marks to hustle at Jabba's, cretins like Ortugg the Gamorrean and Barada the Klatooinian. Ree-Yees found some purpose tending to the warty frog-dog named Bubo, the toothy creature that announced newcomers to Jabba's throne room with a throaty bark. Ree-Yees was secretly plotting to kill Jabba the Hutt for the Empire. Using a transmitter secreted among the flaps of Bubo's skin, Ree-Yees maintained contact with elusive Imperial benefactors. If he was able to kill the Hutt, the Imperials would wipe out his murder record in return, allowing Ree-Yees to go home. The three-eyed bully never accomplished his mission, nor did he ever see goatgrass plains of Kinyen again. He died in the fire that consumed Jabba's sail barge. Behind the ScenesRee-Yees was a slip-on mask and a set of gloves worn by a mime performer in the backgrounds of Return of the Jedi. For closer shots, Ree-Yees was a cable-controlled mask capable of lip and eye articulation. The Ree-Yees design was revisited for Episode I, where incredibly detailed and radio-controlled masks were built for Podracer pilot Mawhonic, Senator Aks Moe, and their respective attendants. Much of the production material surrounding these Episode I aliens simply referred to them as "Ree-Yees."Keywords: Databank - Episode VI Filed under: Vault, Character
