Ketwol![]()
![]() From the MoviesA hardworking Pacithhip, Ketwol stopped into the Mos Eisley Cantina for a drink that fateful day that Luke Skywalker first met Han Solo. Aside from witnessing Obi-Wan Kenobi dispatch a pair of trouble-seeking thugs, Ketwol also managed raised the ire of a serpentine bar patron.Ketwol's humanoid frame is a crafty deception. Like other Pacithhips, Ketwol has a rounded body with tiny legs. In order to get around in a galaxy dominated by humanoids, Ketwol employs a pair of mechanical stilts that give him the appearance of a humanoid build. From the Expanded UniverseA pleasant, if somewhat aloof, prospector, Ketwol sells precious ores and metals that he mines from asteroids. He travels the galaxy in an old, poorly maintained vessel called the Herd Mother, and tends to keep to himself. Though not aggressive by nature, Ketwol is a crack shot with the tiny dart pistol he keeps hidden in his tunic, and his thick hide and tusks offer both protection and defense should a deal turn sour.Behind the ScenesKetwol was a detailed puppet digitally inserted into a shot of the cantina sequence in the Special Edition re-release of A New Hope. His addition replaced the original wolfman, Lak Sivrak, in the film. The Ketwol puppet was redressed to become the Melas puppet as well.Ketwol's mechanical limbs came about due to Terryl Whitlach's full body development sketches of the Pacithhip design. Ketwol was only seen from the shoulders up in A New Hope, so Whitlach designed a large, rounded body with tiny little legs. When The Phantom Menace was in production, the creature department produced a number of Ketwol masks to be used on extras. All of a sudden, the decidedly inhumanoid Pacitthip design was to be given legs. The mechanical stilts were developed as an explanatory bridge between the two looks. Filed under: Vault, Character
