  • General Grievous

    General Grievous

General Grievous was a brilliant Separatist military strategist and a feared Jedi hunter, known for his ruthlessness and hacking cough. His body itself was a weapon, allowing him lightning quick strikes and devastating blows. But he was also quick to run from a fight, a tactic that worked until one final meeting with Obi-Wan Kenobi.

History

General Grievous during The Clone Wars

As the droid army leader in the Clone Wars, General Grievous inspired fear throughout the Republc. Trained in lightsaber combat by Count Dooku, he travelled the galaxy, invading worlds and engaging Jedi. The metal-meets-organic monstrosity fought Ahsoka Tano and Obi-Wan Kenobi numerous times, always managing to escape.

Grievous maintained his own lair in a Separatist headquarters. Located on the third moon of Vassek, it contained several rooms and chambers, featuring statues of an alien warrior and multiple armors. The lair was discovered by investigating Jedi and clones, who surprised the General and demanded his surrender. While he suffered severe injuries, Grievous escaped and was restored by his doctor, A-4D; he regrouped to unleash a surprise of his own on the Jedi: Gor, his vicious pet roggwart. While Gor was destroyed, Grievous himself killed a young Padawan called Nahdar and overwhelmed Kit Fisto in lightsaber combat. The General survived to fight another day.

General Grievous escaping the Battle of Coruscant

Under the orders of Count Dooku and Darth Sidious, General Grievous led a daring kidnapping of Chancellor Palpatine in the Battle of Coruscant. Keeping his prisoner in the custody of Dooku aboard his flagship, Grievous was unsurprised when Jedi Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker arrived to stage a rescue. The Jedi proved victorious, with Anakin killing Dooku and freeing the Chancellor, but were soon apprehended by Grievous’ droids. Brought before him, Grievous took their lightsabers, boasting that they would make a fine addition to his collection. Thanks to some of R2-D2’s clever trickery, however, the Jedi regained their weapons and cornered the droid army leader. In a last-second cowardly move, Grievous shattered the bridge viewport and escaped into space.

Grievous headed for a major Separatist base on Utapau. Speaking with Darth Sidious, he was assured that the war was coming to an end, and the Separatists would be victorious. Still, it would prove to be short-lived comfort for the walking terror. Obi-Wan soon arrived with a battalion of clones, and the Battle of Utapau began. The General and Obi-Wan dueled, and despite wielding four lightsabers at once, Grievous was dismembered and once again tried to flee. Obi-Wan gave chase, and the two eventually fought in a knock-down drag-out fist fight. The Jedi had lost his lightsaber and found himself dangling from a cliff, and Grievous appeared to have the upper hand. As the General menacingly lurched forward, prepared to deliver the final blow, Obi-Wan used the Force to draw Grievous' blaster into his hand. He shot Grievous in the chest, igniting what remained of his organic matter, and the fearsome menace was no more.

    Obi-Wan Kenobi

A legendary Jedi Master, Obi-Wan Kenobi was a noble man and gifted in the ways of the Force. He trained Anakin Skywalker, served as a general in the Republic Army during the Clone Wars, and guided Luke Skywalker as a mentor.

  • Battle Droid

    default

    Battle Droid

Rather than use flesh-and-blood warriors, the Separatists prefer mindlessly loyal soldiers that are easily controlled. The soulless ranks of their armies are dominated by tall, thin B1 battle droids built as mechanical imitations of their Geonosian designers. Battle droids can be controlled by centralized command centers such as the Trade Federation’s enormous Droid Control Ships, or programmed for independent action. They often suffer programming glitches that manifest as personality quirks. Battle droids are dim-witted and no match for clone troopers or Jedi, but they weren’t designed to be smart – they were designed to overwhelm Republic civilians through sheer numbers, something they do very effectively.

    default

    Asajj Ventress

A former Jedi Padawan turned assassin, Asajj Ventress was trained in the ways of the dark side by Count Dooku. For many years, she yearned to be considered a true Sith, secretly acting as Dooku’s apprentice. During the time of the Clone Wars, Ventress fought for the Separatists, clashing with Jedi like Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker with her twin red-bladed lightsabers. But after Dooku was ordered to dispose of Asajj and left her for dead, Ventress returned to her Nightsister clan to exact her revenge. In time, Ventress reinvented herself as a bounty hunter and reclaimed her identity, neither a Sith nor a Jedi.

  • Kit Fisto

    Kit Fisto

Kit Fisto is a striking example of an alien Jedi, a Nautolan with large eyes, and a gathered tangle of flexible tentacle-tresses extending from his head. He is at home in the waters of aquatic planets, like his native Glee Anselm. As a Jedi Master, Fisto has an intense focus, particularly in combat. He is also much more laid back and capable of enjoying a hearty chuckle than some of his humorless colleagues.

  • Emperor Palpatine

    Emperor Palpatine (Darth Sidious)

The dark side of the Force is a pathway to many abilities some consider to be unnatural, and Sheev Palpatine is the most infamous follower of its doctrines. Scheming, powerful, and evil to the core, Darth Sidious restored the Sith and destroyed the Jedi Order. Living a double life, he was also Palpatine, a Naboo Senator and phantom menace. He manipulated the political system of the Galactic Republic until he was named Supreme Chancellor -- and eventually Emperor – and ruled the galaxy through fear and tyranny. The galaxy rejoiced when he died at the Battle of Endor, but Sidious had cheated death and patiently plotted a return to power.

    Utapau

Ringed by numerous moons, the remote sanctuary of Utapau is a planet pitted with enormous sinkholes. Its windswept surface is dry and desert-like, but deep in the porous crust, at the bottom of the sinkholes are pools of life-giving water. Many of the sinkholes on one of the planet's small continents are lined with intricate cities that stretch deep into caves and crevices beneath the planet's surface, as well as mining operations that seek to uncover valuable minerals from the planet's depths.
