Bacara, Commander![]()
![]() From the MoviesBacara was a clone commander who worked alongside General Ki-Adi-Mundi against Separatist the droid armies on Mygeeto, an Outer Rim planet controlled by the InterGalactic Banking Clan. Commander Bacara also went by the numerical designation Commander 1138. Though he fought alongside the Jedi in numerous battles, his ultimate loyalty was to the Republic and its Supreme Chancellor. When Palpatine contacted Bacara personally and executed Order 66, Bacara carried out the command without question. He and his fellow Galactic Marines opened fire on Ki-Adi-Mundi, killing their general. From the Expanded UniverseThe progression of the Clone Wars saw increasing diversification within the Grand Army of the Republic. Clone troopers became more specialized, and specific units were distinguished by mission profiles and customized armor. One of the most feared and versatile units were the Galactic Marines, under the command of General Ki-Adi-Mundi and Clone Commander Bacara. The marines were cross-trained in space and ground-based fighting, and well-versed in zero-gee combat. These troops were among the first to field-test new equipment and combat gear. Their use of the prototype spacetrooper powersuit during the Battle of New Bornalex was well documented; when the weapons systems on the suits failed, the troopers used the mechanical musculature to engage the enemy super battle droids in hand-to-hand combat and tore into them with their enhanced manipulators. This fostered a ferocious reputation for the marines that Bacara particularly relished. Bacara was one of the first generation of clone commanders to benefit from a new training program instituted by Alpha, an ARC trooper veteran. Alpha translated his natural independence and lack of genetically engineered docility tampering into a regimen that emphasized individuality and creativity. Bacara took it with zeal; Ki-Adi-Mundi recorded on several occasions that he found Bacara's aggressive tendencies to be remarkable for a clone. Behind the ScenesThough not spoken in the film, Commander Bacara's reference number -- 1138 -- is a not-so-subtle reference to George Lucas' first feature film, THX 1138. The design of the cold weather Galactic Marines was inspired by the snowtrooper designs developed for The Empire Strikes Back. The open-facemask design of Bacara's helmet was first developed for an "inclement weather" clone tank driver. Keywords: Databank - Episode III Filed under: Vault, Character
