Bossk![]()
![]() From the Movies"Bounty hunters. We don't need that scum," was a sentiment quietly expressed by Admiral Piett when Lord Vader recruited a group of six elite hunters to track down the Millennium Falcon.Piett thought he was out of earshot, but the disparagement was still heard by Bossk, a towering reptilian humanoid and skilled predator. Though Boba Fett ultimately bested the other hunters and collected Han Solo's bounty, Bossk is nonetheless a fearsome and heavily armed tracker. From the Expanded UniverseWith the possible exception of the Rodians, no other species is better culturally suited to the profession of bounty hunting than the Trandoshans of the Kashyyyk system. These reptilian humanoids not only have strong builds and regenerative abilities that can regrow lost limbs, but their religious beliefs revolve around a god known as the Scorekeeper, who rewards successful hunts in the afterlife. Bearing the brunt of this bloodlust are the neighboring Wookiees. Trandoshans have long hunted the proud arboreal species, gathering brute labor for slavers or harvesting Wookiee pelts. When the Empire rescinded anti-slavery laws enacted by the Old Republic, the Wookiee situation became all the more dire. While several of the other bounty hunter who answered Vader's call to find the Millennium Falcon did so with aspirations to hunt down Han Solo, Bossk did it to capture Chewbacca. Bossk is the son of Cradossk, a respected hunter and the former head of the Bounty Hunters Guild. Bossk quickly proved a capable hunter, collecting hundreds of Wookiee pelts, acquiring the title Monarch of the Qotile system, and even killing the head of CorSec on Corellia, Hal Horn. His luck wouldn't last forever, and Bossk encountered a string a failures. Many of them came at the hands of Boba Fett, a rival bounty hunter who constantly outdid him. Though Bossk gathered a fair amount of power by betraying, killing and eating his father Cradossk, he could not hold onto it. Under his leadership, the Bounty Hunters Guild splintered into two warring factions -- Bossk's Guild Reform Committee and the True Guild backed by Cradossk loyalists. Broke and betrayed, Bossk worked freelance for a time, even teaming up with his longstanding rival Fett on Ord Mantell. During the hunt for the Falcon, Bossk enlisted the aid of bounty hunters Tinian I'att and the Wookiee Chenlambec. While Bossk planned on double-crossing the pair and skinning Chen, it was Bossk who was tricked. Betrayed into liberating a Lomabu III Wookiee prison camp, Bossk was incarcerated by the Empire and he barely survived with his skin intact. Again down on his luck, Bossk took a series of odd jobs for high-paying clientele like Barpotamus Drebble and Domina Tagge. He teamed up with fellow hunters 4-LOM and Zuckuss in a bid to intercept Boba Fett before he could return to Tatooine with the carbon-frozen form of Han Solo, but ultimately failed. Bossk's profile has continued to diminish throughout the years. He is no longer a gifted youngster, but instead a bitter, grizzled old Trandoshan unable to regenerate. Word of Chewbacca's death during the Yuuzhan Vong invasion eventually reached Bossk, and brought a sneering grin to the old lizard's face. When Han Solo saw that sneer, he made sure to plant a fist in it. Behind the ScenesThe original script called for Bossk to be a "slimy, tentacled monster with two huge, bloodshot eyes in a soft baggy face." His final design featured a flight suit that can be glimpsed in the cantina sequence of A New Hope. Production photos prove that Bossk was present in Jabba's palace and sail barge during Return of the Jedi, though he is very difficult to spot in the film. Keywords: Databank - Expanded Universe, Databank - Episode V, Databank - Episode VI Filed under: Vault, Character
