The 18 foolhardy pilots who entered the Boonta Eve Classic Podrace were a mixture of seasoned pros and talented newcomers. Boles Roor was one of the former, having nabbed two previous Boonta victories in his career. The shaggy biped failed to win a third purse the year he competed against Anakin Skywalker.

From the Expanded Universe

This shovel-jawed Sneevel had a powerful voice and an overwhelming stench. Though Roor was a capable Podracer pilot, he fancied himself a crooner. He established a profitable career as a glimmik singer, and came to think of Podracing more as a hobby to supplement his singing. The day before the Boonta Classic, he was belting out tunes at the Poodoo Lounge. Full of himself, Roor taunted a skittish Toong in the crowd. The blusterous Roor wagered five million peggats that the Toong, Ben Quadinaros, would never dare enter the Boonta Eve classic. Much to Roor's chagrin, Ben entered the race. Even though Quadinaros' racer failed to make it past the starting grid, he had met the conditions of Roor's ill-advised bet. Ben found himself millions of peggats richer than Roor, who finished sixth in the race.

Behind the Scenes

Terryl Whitlatch's concept sketches of Boles Roor only identify him as "Shaggy Podracer." Boles is never seen clearly on screen in Episode I, even though his (empty) Podracer cockpit is visible on screen when the announcer calls his name.
