Roose, Ark "Bumpy"![]()
![]() From the MoviesNeither good looking nor shy, or so Fode & Beed's introduction read, Ark "Bumpy" Roose was one of the 18 Podracer pilots that competed in the fateful Boonta Eve Classic that saw the liberation of Anakin Skywalker. He drove an unwieldy craft with clustered Podracer engines and a globe-shaped canopy enclosing the cockpit. During the second lap of the race, he had to put in for on-the-go maintenance administered by his team of pit droids. From the Expanded UniverseThe dimwitted native of Sump barely has the attention span to support a vendetta, but in the days leading up to the Boonta Eve Classic, Roose had it in for young Anakin Skywalker. After nearly being overtaken by Anakin in a previous race, Roose wanted to ensure that Skywalker would not be a threat to him. Roose set out to sneakily sabotage Skywalker's Podracer, but in his scatter-brained haze, he instead disabled Ben Quadinaros' quadra-Pod racer. In a high speed example of poetic justice, Roose collided with ne'er-do-well Dud Bolt in the third lap of the Boonta, in a treacherous area known as the Coil.Behind the ScenesArk's design was finalized in a series of sketches by Terryl Whitlatch. A detailed maquette established his paint scheme and three-dimensional details. For the film, Bumpy was realized as a computer-generated creation. The DVD release of Episode I features an extended close-up of Roose waving to his adoring public. The basic computer model used for Roose is being re-used, with some modifications, for Slyther Bushforb, a background character in Attack of the Clones. Keywords: Databank - Episode I Filed under: Vault, Character
