Thanks to the Toys for Tots program, many young Star Wars fans this holiday season will receive scores of toys from the Lucasfilm Licensing Archives as well as from employees of the various Lucasfilm divisions.

For over a decade, the firefighters stationed at Lucasfilm's Skywalker Ranch have been participating in the Toys for Tots program, gathering toys for less fortunate youngsters who might not otherwise find an X-wing or astromech droid under their tree during the holiday season.

"Like many other firehouses around the country, the Skywalker Battalion helps gather toys for the program from all the divisions of Lucasfilm," says Archive Supervisor Marc Wendt. "Fire Safety distributes the drop boxes which are filled with donations from individual employees within the Lucas companies."

In addition to employee donations, Lucas Licensing is also happy to contribute, offering up an annual bounty of Star Wars toys for eager young fans across the country.

"The Licensing division makes a yearly contribution from our archives stock," continues Wendt. "Over the years the Licensing contribution to the program varies according to how much volume we have in licensing samples. In the '90s we were able to add a little extra to the overall company donation -- however, over the years as our fans have helped build the Star Wars toy business, we have been able to do more and more."

In 2001, Lucas Licensing was able to donate over $1,000,000 worth of toy samples, filling four tractor trailer rigs with toys. While this has been the most significant donation to Toys for Tots made by the company to date, the Licensing Archive digs deep into the Jedi toy bin every year to help as much as they can.

"The Toys for Tots program succeeds because of the generous donations from individuals and the hard work and dedication of heroes in the fire departments and United States Marine Corps Reserve units around the country," says Wendt.
