When Commandant Aresko briefed Kallus on recent thefts from the market in Lothal’s Capital City, the Imperial Security Bureau agent recognized the incidents as part of a pattern and vowed to snuff out this potential spark of rebellion.
-
Kallus engineered a trap for the rebels, leading squad of stormtroopers in effort to capture them aboard a Gozanti cruiser. His plan was foiled when the rebels shut off the artificial gravity and fled, but not all of them escaped – Kallus captured Ezra Bridger, the youngest member of their crew.
-
Kallus held the boy prisoner aboard a Star Destroyer, hoping to entice the rebels into returning. They did, but Kallus’s captive proved annoyingly capable, escaping from his cell and hiding in the ventilation system. The other rebels turned out to be formidable foes, with Kallus barely escaping an explosive trap engineered by Sabine Wren.
-
Aware of the rebels’ plans, Kallus raced to Kessel and confronted them as they tried to free Wookiee slaves from the planet’s infamous spice mines. Wielding his lightsaber, Kanan Jarrus got the best of Kallus in battle, but the Imperial agent survived to report that the rebel ranks included a Jedi.
-
After the rebels took C-3PO and R2-D2 captive, the protocol droid – ignorant of Artoo’s secret mission -- contacted Kallus and told the Imperial agent the Ghost’s coordinates. Kallus arrived and fought Zeb with a traditional Lasat bo-rifle, which he’d taken from a fallen Lasat Honor Guard when the Empire conquered Lasan. Only Ezra’s instinctive use of the Force prevented Kallus from killing Zeb.
-
After the rebels disrupted Empire Day ceremonies on Lothal, Kallus pursued them, dueling with Kanan and Zeb while standing atop an Imperial troop transport. But the rebels once again confounded Kallus by engineering a narrow escape.
-
When the rebels met with exiled Senator Gall Trayvis at Lothal’s Old Senate Building, Kallus and his troops prepared an ambush. But Sabine and Zeb ambushed the Imperials in turn, buying time for the rebels and Trayvis to flee.
-
The Empire’s failings on Lothal drew the baleful eye of Grand Moff Tarkin, governor of the Outer Rim. Tarkin lectured Kallus and other local Imperials for their failures, ordering the ISB agent to send out probe droids in an all-out hunt for the rebels.
-
A damaged probe captured an image of the rebels scouting Lothal’s communications tower. Working with the Inquisitor, Kallus’s forces trapped the rebels. Once again he only caught one of them – but this time it was Kanan Jarrus, the Jedi whom the Inquisitor had pursued so relentlessly.
-
When Tarkin returned from Mustafar, Kallus had the unwelcome duty of telling the Grand Moff that unrest was spreading on Lothal and citizens saw the Empire as weak. But Tarkin was not concerned – he had brought a powerful new ally to Lothal. Such was Kallus’s introduction to the Sith Lord Darth Vader.
